Visakhapatnam is a major industrial city and according to the Hindu Mythology, it has been named after Lord Vaishaka. It is also famous as Vizag. The city of Viskhapatnam was the headquarters of the Eastern Naval Command and is popular to be the host to the largest building yard across the country. The most important port in Vizag is responsible for the handling of the massive volumes of Cargo per day. In Southern India, Vizag is the prime industrial center.
The city of Visakhapatnam is enriched with the cultural and historical heritage of India and the reason behind this is that the city was once a part of the ancient empire of Kalinga and has been under the Kingship of the most distinguished kings, like Ashoka and Krishnadeve Raya. The city also served as a Dutch colony back in the 18th century. Presently, Vizag has transformed into an urban zone and is a perfect blend of ancient and modern worlds.

The city of Vizag is enclosed by three magnificent hills named Sri Venkateswara Konda, Ross Hill and Dargah Konda. A shrine dedicated to three different religions stands on each of three hills. Venkateswara temple worships Lord Shiva as the main deity and stands on the Venkateswara Konda hill. There is a church of the Virgin Mary on Ross Hill representing Christianity. Islam is represented by the tomb of a Muslin Saint named Baba Ishaq Madina Dargah located on the Dargah Konda.
Major attractions of this city are Kailasagiri Hull Park, VUDA Park, Mudsarlove, Simhachalam Temple, Dantapuram, Rushikonda Beach and Araku, which is a beautiful hill station. There is also a submarine museum called Smritika at Rama Krishna Beach. It is the first and a unique kind of museum all across Southern India.
