It is believed that this town was built around 300 years back by Sawant Bhosale dynasty. One very common form of art is the Ganifa cards, which are handmade pieces, made of circular paper, and these are the depiction of miniature designs of 10 reincarnations of Lord Vishnu. This art is around 300 years old. The town also has a small craft village, which is known as the Shilpa Gram and it is a platform for the local craftsmen to show their unsurpassed crafts and work to the visitors.
