Pushkar- Creation of Lord Brahma
The land which holds immense religious importance and is amongst the most primeval cities of India is Pushkar. The city has a special place in the heart of local people and visitors, as it is believed to be the creation of Lord Brahma. Legends narrate the myth associated with it that around 6000 years ago Lord Brahma performed atonement, just to have the glimpse of Shri Vishnu.
Pushkar is also renowned as “the scared city of Hindus” and is about 10kms away from Ajmer. The foremost attraction of the town is its blissful lake. It too has a great history associated with it which states that Lord Brahma is supposed to have destroyed the existence of asura Vajra Nabha, with his lotus flower and with his contact the petals fell at three different places. Among which one place is renowned as Pushkar, where a sanctified lake is formed by Lord Brahma.
Settled between hills and golden desert the city initially had 500 temples and 52 palaces on its shores, but with time and under the rule of many rulers the temples went under destructions and reconstructions. However, the town still manages to stand and safeguard its charm with its ancient history and magnificent temples. Apart from its rich tradition and places of interest, for tourists there are many areas where they can shop around for famous handicrafts, fabrics, fusion music and books. Also with its moderate climate conditions the town can be visited at any time of the year and one can enjoy its fairs, festivals, pilgrimages, safaris etc.
