Nalgonda- The Architectural Grandeur
Nestled in Andhra Pradesh in the Nalgonda district, this city was earlier known by the name Neelgiri. It was during the reign of Bahamanis that it was renamed as Nalgonda. Word Nalgonda is the amalgamation of two different words “Nalla” meaning “Black” and “Konda” meaning “Hills”.
The best thing about Nalgonda is its culture; it is a montage of various cultures, as the city has a history of being ruled by Muslim as well as Hindu rulers. This place has many things to offer, some of the main attractions are Pillalmari, the Phanigiri Buddhist Sites, Nandikonda, Kollanpaku Jain Temple, Mellachervu, and Bhuvanangiri Fort. All these places are the testimony of the great history of Nalgonda.
Nandikonda village, a nearby location can also be visited during your trip to Nalgonda. Here, one can see different monasteries and pillared vestibules. Many precious articles are preserved in a museum by the Central Archaeological Department of India. In fact, one can see a large number of archaeological sites in and around the area of Nalgonda. As per the surveys, Nalgonda has the record of being the oldest colonized vicinity of this region.
