Kukke Subramanya is a popular temple situated in the heart of village Subramanya in the Sullia region in the neighborhood of Mangalore city in the state of Karnataka. The village is built on the banks of the River Kumaradhara. The main deity worshipped in this majestic temple is Lord Subramanya, who is known as the god of snakes. Garuda Tower is an important part of this temple. The tower has been carved out in silver and the belief behind its construction is that it protects the worshippers from the toxic fumes released from Vasuki’s breath, as it is believed that this temple serves as a home to Vasuki, who is the king of snakes. Ashlesha Bali and Sarpa Samskara are the two major poojas performed here.
Bildwara cave is a valued cave structure on the way to Kumaradhara River from Kukke Subramanya temple. It has a natural entrance and exit. Some other popular temples located in this village include Adi Subramanya, Matsya and Panchami Trithas, Shringeri Mutt, Subramanya Mutt and Vedvyasa Samputa Narasimha temple. Kumara Parvata is a part of the Western Ghats and Dakshina Kannada is its highest mountain peak with an altitude of 4000 meters. This spot promises breathtaking views of the adjacent area. On the top of this mountain there are white stones, which are believed to be the six facet Saligramams and Shivalingas and are famous as the Kumarlingas.
