Summers in Kolkata are from March to May and can be uncomfortable for many people since although the city’s proximity to major water bodies like the Hooghly river and the Bay of Bengal makes the difference in weather far less extreme than other parts of the country, the combination of heat and humidity might just be too much for some to bear. The monsoons extend from June to October and can play a big role in washing out any plans for sightseeing and travelling so visiting during these months is not suggested. The proximity to major water bodies often means that even public transport in and around the city will be at a virtual standstill. The winter season from November to February is the best time to visit the city and enjoy all the tourist activities which a cultural melting pot like Kolkata has to offer any and all tourists.
