HOWRAH

Howrah is situated in the Howrah district of West Bengal and is an important industrial center. Situated on the west bank of the Hoogly River, Howrah offers many places of tourist interest.

The most popular tourist spot is the very old banyan tree found in the Shibpur neighborhood. Its vastness makes it believable that it has the greatest canopy in the world. A local wonder, this tree covers a few city blocks. The Botanical Gardens established by the British here in the year 1786 are also worth the visit.

Some temples found in the city include a temple of Lord Rama, where a grand fair is held during the festive season. The Santragachhi Jheel is a wonderful place which is frequented by birds of many species that migrate here during the winter season, including the famous Whistling Duck.
