Dhauli – Temple city of India
Located in close proximity to Orissa, on the shores of Daya is the most renowned town Dhauli. It is at a distance of about 8kms from the capital city of Bhubaneswar. The site has an historic importance linked to it because of the Kalinga battle that was held within the city premises. This war is alleged to have changed the complete life of royal leader, Asoka.
Dhauli is a well-known scared place and is unique among the various tourist attractions in India. On the peak of Dhauli hills, you can see magnificent statutes of the emperor Asoka and his inscriptions. There are splendid carvings embossed on stone that depict the life and stories of his conquest during his reign. Besides, there is a temple which houses several stupas and Buddhist monasteries, built by Asoka himself and are believed to have religious significance among devotees and thus considered to be a special pilgrimage site for Hindus and Buddhists.
Amidst the town there is another famous Japanese Pagoda which is a symbol of peace and harmony and a beautifully carved and built ancient Shiva temple, situated on its hills.
