The beautiful hill station of Dharamshala can be accessed easily by travelers, as it is well linked to major cities through Kangra Mandir, which is the nearest railway station that lies at about 22 km away from the town. All the important trains halt at the Pathankot railway station as well, which is present at a distance of 85 km from this hill station. Tourists can travel in a number of trains, which include Adi Jat express, Dauladhar Express, Jammu mail, Tata Jat express. From the railway station, tourists can either hire a taxi or take a bus to reach Dharamshala.
The Dharamshala airport or the Gaggal airport makes it easier for the tourists to reach this beautiful hill station. This airport lies in the Kangra valley and is present at a distance of 15 km from the hill station. A number of domestic flights connect various cities of the country with Kangra. International travelers can reach this destination via the Delhi international airport, which is linked with a majority of important cities all over the world, and then take a bus or taxi to reach Dharamshala.
With the help of privately owned and state owned buses, Dharamshala is well connected to northern India through road network. The main bus terminal is present in lower Dharamshala where almost all the buses stop. The Haryana Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) buses can take the tourists all the way up to the main square at McLeodganj as well. While travelling by bus, travelers can enjoy some breathtaking views of the valley.
