ALIGARH – The Education Hub
One of the leading centers for studies in India, Aligarh is located in Uttar Pradesh. The famous battle of Ally Ghur that was fought between the British and the French took place in the city of Aligarh, which has a long history.
Aligarh was also known as Kol and it was probably named so after the name of the tribe that lived here in ancient time. However, it is also believed that the city was named Kol after a demon or a mountain. During the reigning period of Ibrahim Lodhi, a Mughal emperor, fort built by the governor’s son Muhammad was named as Kol. This fort remains the main attraction and is renamed as Aligarh Fort.
